TRIANGLE OF SADNESS

  • 30 Hargraves Street Castlemaine Australia (map)

RATING: M

DURATION: 2:27

DIRECTOR: Ruben Östlund

STARRING: Woody Harrelson, Iris Berben, Arvin Kananian, Charlbi Dean

Acclaimed auteur Ruben Östlund (The Square, Force Majuere) rocks the boat with his second Palme d’Or winner, the wickedly funny TRIANGLE OF SADNESS. Östlund’s latest comedy takes aim at the rich and famous with hysterical precision in a ridiculously frenzied journey that hooks in viewers from beginning to end.

The ‘eat the rich’ satire sees social hierarchy turned upside down, revealing the tawdry relationship between power and beauty. Celebrity model couple, Carl (Harris Dickinson) and Yaya (Charlbi Dean), are invited on a luxury cruise for the uber-rich, helmed by an unhinged boat captain (Woody Harrelson). What first appeared instagrammable ends catastrophically, leaving the survivors stranded on a desert island and fighting for survival.

The unrelenting send-up of the world’s elite lets audiences revel in the misfortunes of pompous socialites with shocking waves of dark humour. Every member of the incredible ensemble cast plays their detestable characters to perfection, and while the cruise looks like an exhausting nightmare for its passengers, the cast ensures the film plays out with addictive electricity.
