Central Victoria Climate Action and Theatre Royal proudly present “HOW TO BLOW UP A PIPELINE”, an environmentalist action-thriller about a group of individuals who decide to blow up an oil pipeline.
Set primarily in West Texas, the film follows eight young individuals who decide to blow up the oil pipeline at two key locations. It explores the moral validity of extreme actions in addressing the climate crisis, the question of terrorism, and the use of property damage and sabotage of fossil fuel infrastructure as activist tactics. In particular, it challenges the narrative of individual responsibility for the climate emergency.
In screening this film, members of Central Vic Climate Action are wanting to stir up the conversation about how we are responding to the status quo where our leaders and financial institutions continue to actively support the fossil fuel industry, in the full knowledge that these decisions are destroying our environment and the future of the planet. We are certainly NOT advocating the use of violence but instead we are suggesting that we all need to step up and out onto the street.
