WHY BECOME A MEMBER?
Once again Theatre Royal are calling out for lovers of live music, independent cinema and the Arts to get behind Castlemaine’s historical Theatre Royal and become Loyal Royal members for 2024/25.
Loyal Royals not only get discounted tickets all year through, plus access to behind the scenes news and events, but also provide Theatre Royal owners Felicity Cripps and Tim Health with the means to preserve one of the oldest continuously operating theatres in the Southern Hemisphere.
For the longest continuously operating Theatre (since 1854), there’s a lot required to keep the heritage listed building in good shape. The overheads alone are far more excessive than a regular commercial space. A strong membership base allows TR to make the improvements necessary to continue as Central Victoria’s premiere venue for independent cinema and live music.
Theatre Royal has a special place in the heart of many Castlemainians, not only as one of the first Australian "picture palaces" to screen silent movies in 1919 and the “talkies” that followed, but also as the beating heart of the vibrant, artistic community, often the place for local fundraisers and community gatherings.
WHAT 2025 HOLDS:
We are lucky enough to now have the extraordinary Rich Moffat booking artists for the Theatre.
Rich got his first job booking bands in pubs at age 17, and spent several decades programming artists for venues such as The Punters Club (1992-1998), Corner Hotel (1995-2014), Evelyn Hotel (1990-1992), Northcote Social Club (2004-2014) and more.
In the early 2000s, he started programming festivals, including Queenscliff Music Festival (1998-2003), Falls (2005-2016), Groovin’ the Moo (2010-2023), Parklife (2009-2014), and Splendour in the Grass (2013). Rich’s knowledge and passion for the industry is second-to-none, so next year will bring in more outstanding live shows than ever.
Theatre Royal has also just received a grant through REVIVE LIVE, which will allow us to program a run of extraordinary line-ups, employing artists and industry workers and bringing more eclectic music to the region.
